Mehidy Hasan Miraz is a spinning all-rounder who has emerged from a country that has a rich history of producing quality finger spinners. He made his international debut as an 18-year-old, and since then has solved Bangladesh’s problem by playing as a skilled off-spin bowler who is more than capable of whacking his long handle down the order. Miraz started playing at the tender age of eight years, when he was selected to play in the U-14 National Cricket Tournament. He then got opportunities to play in the U-17 and U-19 competitions. In 2016, he captained Bangladesh in the U-19 World Cup, playing the role of an all-rounder. His team finished in third place, and he was adjudged Player of the Tournament. After the U-19 World Cup, the all-rounder had an astonishing first-class debut for the Khulna Division. He ended the season with 30 wickets at a staggering average, which followed up with his maiden international call-up. Mehidy made his Test debut against touring England in October 2016. The off-spinner played a mammoth role in the two-match series, where he took 19 wickets, including two six-wicket hauls, and finished the series with the Player of the Series award. In early 2017, he got his ODI and T20I caps against Sri Lanka, and since then, he hasn’t looked back. In a short career span, Mehidy was part of Bangladesh’s squad for the 2019 World Cup.
