A product of Durbanville Cricket Club and Western Province age-group cricket, the Cape Town-born teenager was recognised early for his ability to bat long hours and absorb pressure. Coaches often recall how he would refuse to leave the nets until he mastered a particular drill. Lategan shone in Western Province Premier League cricket, compiling consistent scores that made him one of the standout youngsters in Cape Town. Representing Western Province at the age-group and club level, he produced several match-defining knocks. A notable innings came when he carried his bat deep into the game for Durbanville CC, guiding them to a crucial win, underlining his ability to adapt across formats. The Cape Town-born was part of the Durbanville Cricket Club’s title-winning 2024-25 Western Province Cricket Association Premier League team.
